The issue about global warming rages around us and blankets our lives with its facts and fiction. Both sides, pro and con offer their propaganda to influence our thinking. Why do you suppose that is? Each side has an agenda that seems to be backed up by facts. The Internet offers up facts on both sides. There is some extremely laughable information available as well as some very plausible information. It is up to us to understand what applies to our daily actions and what we can do about global warming.

It seems to be all around us. It is certainly on all the weather stations. It faces us when we decide to purchase a new car or even a cleaning product. The real issues come when trying to learn about global warming. There is so much conflicting information on the internet and, unfortunately, there is not one group that can agree on all aspects of the global warming debate.

It is apparent, from data gathered, that the first thing that can be agreed on is that global temperatures have risen over the past century. Granted, the rise in temperature has been only a degree or so but the issue is whether or not the temperatures of the earth will continue to rise and the exact effect it will have on the environment. The debate about global warming comes from conflicting evidence within the past.

Science has proven that global warming also occurred in or around prehistoric times. It is thought that a global catastrophe such as a meteor impacting the earth caused a temperature shift. Did it kill off the dinosaurs? Science does not know this to be the fact. This is just one hypothesis. Political and Industrial facets further complicate the issues about global warming. These groups argue that there is not sufficient information regarding the effects of global warming to limit industrial emissions.

When will we know the full facts about global warming and will the global warming issue be resolved anytime soon? Unfortunately the answer is probably, no. There will continue to be studies performed and there will always be a measure of doubt clouding the minds of citizens around the world. Perhaps, when enough data comes through, we will be able to make a determination based on scientific fact rather than theory. Until then we can continue to monitor the progress of scientists and try to do our part in conserving the environment.

1. 2005 was the HOTTEST year ever on record. Average world temperatures have climbed over 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1900.

2. Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing and may have its first completely ice free summer by 2040.

3. Humans are pouring “CO2″ (carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere faster than plants and oceans can absorb it.

4. Glaciers are melting fast, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat.

5. The number of severe storms and droughts is increasing and the number of category 4 and 5 hurricans has almost doubled in the last 30 years.

6. 30 years ago the global warming scientist James Lovelock worked out that the Earth possessed a planetary scale control system which kept the enviroment fit for life. He called it “GAIA” and the theory has become widely accepted. The ugly truth is that climate change is already insoluble and life on earth will never be the same again. Other Renowned climate scientists still have some hope.. but they say we have less than 10years before the damage is irreversible.

7. Global warming caused principally by the large scale emissions of industrial gases such as carbon dioxide or “CO2″ is almost certainly the greatest threat mankind has ever faced, because it puts a question mark over the very habitability of the earth.

8. The Bush administration has been accused of editing official scientific studies about global warming and asking NASA to refrain from speaking out on the phenomen.

9. Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years to over 350 000 people a year.

10 More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050.

The term global warming means what it says. Global warming is where the overall temperature of the entire planet, or globe, rises. This rising temperature, even it if is only about one or two degrees, can cause dramatic changes in the planet’s climate. This major climate changes can be so severe that entire species can become extinct due to their inability to cope with the changes to their climates. Why does this concern people? It should concern people because it is human activity that is causing the rapid rise in the overall average temperature of the planet. What makes the situation worse is that many people laugh it all and say it is a myth. Here are four facts about global warming that might help to wake up some of those individuals.

Fact one: The world’s leading scientists have said that global warming is real and have proof backing up their belief that human activity is causing the average temperature to rise. Specifically, the human activity that is causing this rise are the methods of transportation the majority of humans use, as well as the factories and industries that pump toxins into the air. The main culprit is carbon, and this is caused by the burning of fossil fuels by vehicles, factories, and the use of energy that is used for electricity and heat. The proof is in the world around us, such as the melting polar caps as well as the many species being pushed onto the endangered list as a result of losing food and recognizable habitat.

Fact two: in order to slow down global warming, countries from all over the world need to reduce the carbon they put into the air, or find alternatives that don’t release carbon into the air. Planting trees and finding natural alternatives to creating the energy they need is probably the best way to start helping fight global warming.

Fact three: The global warming Earth is experiencing right now is not normal. It is an accelerated global warming that is being caused by humans burning fossil fuels and pumping carbon into the air. The abnormally high levels of carbon in the atmosphere are trapping in the heat, causing the average temperature of the Earth to rise. Scientists have ruled out other possible contributors to the greenhouse gases, but have found that humans are, in fact, the major contributor.

Fact four: Global warming is a completely different problem that the hole in the ozone layer. The hole in the ozone layer is what has been caused by synthetic chemicals, such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Global warming is caused by the buildup of carbon in the atmosphere.

In recent years, hybrid cars have become increasingly popular. With rising gas prices and greater environmental awareness, consumers are turning to alternative technology. Manufacturers are making significant efforts to design cars that will satisfy all of their customers’ demands: low fuel consumption, low cost, low noise pollution, state-of-the-art technology, and environmentally friendly. Enter the hybrid car – not only is it fuel efficient, but its emissions are much lower than conventional cars.

Hybrid Technology
Far from being a new technology, hybrid technology has been in use for years in the making of locomotives, submarines, and buses. In a similar way, hybrid cars rely on a combination of two powers – electricity and fuel injection.

An idling or stopped hybrid car automatically uses electrical power. Once the car begins to accelerate, it reverts to using the fuel engine. Also most hybrids recharge the batteries automatically by converting the energy during braking. Different models of cars vary in terms of when the electric power is used. For example, the Honda Civic Hybrid uses electric power to assist the gas engine during acceleration or going up hills. Other models run on rechargeable electricity during city driving at low speed but run on gasoline when the car’s speed increases such as during highway driving.

Low Emission
Hybrid cars emit far lower levels of pollutants in the air than conventional cars, resulting decreased pollution and reduced effects of global warming. Because no two people drive the same way, it is therefore difficult to estimate, but emissions can be reduced from 25% to 90%, when comparing hybrid cars to conventional gas-powered vehicles. Hybrid car emissions also vary depending on the type of car. Some manufacturers add hybrid technology to existing car models while other manufacturers completely redesign cars with low emission and efficiency at the core. In any case, lower toxic fumes are appreciated in our oil-based economies.

Hybrid vs. Electric
Many people associate hybrid cars with electric cars. However, the two are quite different. The hybrid does not need to be plugged into an electrical outlet to recharge. Gas motors switch on automatically when the battery gets low, and proceeds to charge the battery. Therefore, hybrid cars still use gas while electric cars do not.

A Green Design
Fuel efficiency in hybrid cars stems from numerous improvements.

• Improved aero dynamics
• Lower body weight
• Smaller, lighter, and less powerful gas engines

Reducing weight, especially engine weight, will substantially improve a car’s mileage. Hybrid cars were essentially designed for use in the cities, where traffic is a daily occurrence, in order to reduce gas emissions and slow down global warming. What a great way to help save the environment and improve our overall quality of life.
